If i buy a bottle of something like Crown Royal or whatever and just put it
unopened on the shelf in a cool dark place, will it still be good, better
or worse in 10 years?
Thanks

Same at best. The aging of pretty much any spirit talks about the time
spent in barrel, interacting with the wood. Glass can't add any flavors
or complexity, and light can possibly make things worse.

Great question and reply.

This then means that those who buy old wines for incredible amounts of money
are probably buying vinegar.........

Aye, but wine is full of tannin's and acids which over time interact
with eachother. Mellowing out and merging with the flavors sometimes
benefiting the taste other times degrading. I'm not sure if whiskey
wouldn't benefit from a little extended time or not. I would gather
that a whiskey flavored vodka would not but a Full Grain Boiled Mash
might love a little extra time. I wonder about Crown Royal its most
likely whiskey flavored vodka.
